The Center for Mission is charged with promoting and coordinating the global mission outreach of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis.

Short-term Immersion
Every summer our office sponsors a short-term immersion trip for those in parish leadership roles.  The trip is intended to help leaders be more existentially aware of global realities of faithful people living in poverty and vulnerabilities.  Each trip offers time to reflect on what that might mean in terms of our faithful response in our own personal and parish setting.

El Salvador Immersion Trip

The June 2012 trip has returned.  This immersion trip was a wonderful opportunity to share in the lives of Salvadorians and learn about the importance of Fair Trade.  Participants also visited Archbishop Romero's tomb and the site of the assassination of six Jesuit priests in 1989.

Guatemala Immersion Trip

The next trip to Guatemala is June 29, 2013 to July 9, 2013. It is an unforgettable opportunity to witness Catholic social principals of human dignity, justice and solidarity among the indigenous Mayan culture at San Lucas mission. Hear their stories of hope, joy and struggles. Youth Mission



In past summers, our office organized an exciting, faith-deepening Youth Mission experience in a Catholic context.  Youth from a variety of parishes of the archdiocese traveled to the Red Lake Nation in northern Minnesota where they engaged with the Ojibwe children, youth and elders.  They learned about Ojibwe history, spirituality and culture from the Red Lake elders.  Through the connection with St. Mary’s Mission (the only Catholic Mission on a reservation in Minnesota), the youth celebrated the Sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation in a mission context.  This trip was organized in conjunction with the nationally-recognized YouthWorks organization.
